TE RAPA GALLOPS

ROTORUA CANDIDATES MUNQACRE SHAPES WELL SEVERAL SMART EFFORTS (By “Martian") Several smart efforts were recorded at Te Rapa this morning when the final gallops for the Rotorua meeting and trials of candidates for the approaching Waikato and Te Arolia fixtures took place on the course proper, 60ft. out from the rails. The going was hard and fast as was also that on the plough which was availed of in several instances. The best efforts of the morning were those of Mungacre, Star Artist, Senacre and Australian Star, while Royal Bachelor displayed dash over three furlongs. Fog delayed the commencement of operations and only in several instances were horses galloped in the fog.

Sandrift (R. E. Thomson) ran once round in 2.17. She looks none the ■worse for recent racingStar Artist > Goulsbro) was sligMly in front of Mungacre (W. Thomson) at the completion of six furlongs in 1.19 i. They ran their first two furlongs in 24s and the final half-mile in 55is. Mungacre did his work well arid in the summing up of sprint prospects for Rotorua he will/ have to bo taken into consideration as he appears to have lost none of his old early brilliancy on the flat. A Smart Half-mile The best half-mile effort of the morning was that of Senacre (Ozanne) and Australian Star (A. Gilmer), who finished clear of Raceline (Telford) at the completion of the effort in 52is. Both Senacre and Australian Star did their work well and the latter who appears to be on the upgrade may open his winning account soon. Latour's Last (A. Gilmer) and Calshot (Telford) were associated over half-a-mile cutting out the distance in 53 i-ss.

Rollicker (G. L. Goulsbro) occupied 53Js for a similar effort, time on which he could have improved. This member of the Julian establishment is in good order for engagements ahead and if produced at the Waikato meeting may make amends for his narrow defeat on the first day of the recent Takapuna gathering. Royal Bachelor (C. L- Goulsbro) was to have gone half-a-mile but jumped off past the peg and was timed to run his final three furlongs in 36£s. He looks a picture of condition.

Paunui (W. Thomson), Green Label (light boy) and an Acre filly A. Gilmer) occupied 39 l-5s for a three furlong sprint. Prince Rangi (Main) and Merial (Winder) were associatedi over six furlongs in 1.20. Both did their work well and should race prominently when next called upon. A Useful Boven Gay Streak (A. Gilmer) after jumping off a couple of lengths in front of Hopalong (W. Thomson) was shading the latter at the completion of five furlongs in 1.7. Both are in good heart for engagements ahead and Hopalong should give a good account of himself in the Mokoia Hack at Rotorua on Saturday. Vitement' (Main) and Shadow Queen (J. Winder) dashed home from the three furlong peg in 38s. Master Brierly (J. Winder) was holding Windsor Lass (Main) at the completion of a round in H. 9 1-5. Master Brierly is making good progress and should lack little on the score of condition when paraded for the Storey Memorial Handicap on the first day of the local gathering. Cometarium (A. Gilmer) was holding Centaurus (J. Winder) at the end of five furlongs in 1.6 1-5. It was an encouraging effort on the part of Cometarium.

Tosh (W. Thomson) was not after time coming home easily from the three furlongs In 39 3-ss. He looks in good order for racing at Te Rapa.

Calorie Bhapes Well Calorie (Tilsley) ran home from the half-mile in 53 2-ss. She appears to have benefited by racing at Ellerslie and should strip in fine fettle when next required to race.

Solomon (Ensor) was a couple of lengths clear of Mana (Tilsley) at the end of five furlongs in 1.8. Free Advice (Tilsley) was not doing her best to clock 40s for a three furlong effort-

On the plough Lady Quex (light boy) was in front of Fast Acre (Amunsden) at the completion of half-a-mile In 5045. Chevion (Main) and Nui Papa (Amunsden) were practically on terms at the end of half-a-mile in 51 is. Valquin (Amunsden) and Malfroy (Annan) ran home from the three furlong peg in 38s. Mungacre and Raceline left this morning by float for Rotorua. R. Glading, who is riding at Hawera to-day, will return to attend the Rotorua meeting on Saturday and Monday.
