Cambridge Singer for England Gerald Peters, of Cambridge, the possessor of a fine tenor voice that has been heard frequently at competitions and concerts in Waikato and Auckland, is leaving early in the new year for England, for further study. Mr Peters’ rendering of lilting Irish songs is especially pleasing. N.Z. Tenor’s Wedding In London The wedding will take place at Croydon, England, on February 19, of Hubert Carter and Miss Edith Elizabeth Page. The ceremony will he a quiet
one, but in the evening there will be a wedding reception with music and dancing at the Overseas League headquarters, St. James’. The home of Mr Carter and ’his bride will be at Brook Green, Hammersmith. Music, naturally, will be their leading interest. Mr Carter is wellknown in New Zealand as an operatic tenor, and Miss Page is a brilliant Pianist. Singer Ordered Complete Rest Feodor Chaliapin, the Russian singer, who was in New Zealand some years ago, has been ordered an ‘‘absolute rest” by his doctors. He is in Paris and is staled to be suffering from a tired heart, but if is hoped that lie will soon be leading his usual active life again. Ilis secretary said: “Mr Chaliapin is thought to have had 100 strenuous a summer holiday travelling and mountaineering. lie is very cheerful, and the rest will probably do his voice Strauss Brought to Screen Francis Lederer is lo play Hie wall x composer in “The Life of Johann Strauss." A Conlinenlal actress. Miliza Korjns, will have the feminine lead.
