THE TRUST’S REPORT SIX FROM GERMANY The report of the Rhodes Trust, London, for the academic year 193037 states that during the year 68 Rhodes Scholars took up their scholarships for the first time. The number of scolars regularly in residence l’or either the whole or some part of the year was 185, of whom 93 were from the British Empire, 86 from the United States, and six from Germany. In the course of the year 66 scholars went out of residence on the expiration of their scolarships. The following New Zealanders are mentioned in the 1937 examination results: —L. F. Moller, B.G.L. degree, 2nd class; 1. F. G. Milner, Final Honour Schools, Ist class, philosophy, politics, and economies; F. Monk, Final Honour Schools, 2ml class, modern history; E. P. II as lam, Final Honour Schools. 2nd class, philosophy, politics and economics: X. Davis, diploma in comparutive philology, with distinction. in addition l. F. G. Milner won the New College essay prize and was awarded a Commonwealth Fellowship. Of former New Zealand Rhodes Scholars mention is made of Dr. A. E. Porrits appointment as Surgeon-in-Ordinary lo the King and Queen and to his award of the Order of the Olympic Cross Ist class), Lo M. MeC. Cooper’s captaincy of the Oxford Rugby team against Cambridge, to .). A. Dunning's selection to represent New Zealand in the Cricket Test matches against England on the New Zealand team’s Home tour this year, and to the publication by .1. E. Lovelock of “Athletics for Health: Running Theory and Practice.”
