FIXTURE AT MORRINSVILLE CLUB’S GREAT ENTERPRISE VARIED PROGRAMME ARRANGED Endowed with ideal surroundings and a cycling speedway and recreation ground of which many larger towns would be justly proud, Morrmsville is the obvious centre for large sporting fixtures and it is only natural that one of the largest and most Important ol the Dominion’s athletic and cycling carnivals should be held there. Although Hie Alorrinsvilie Sports Club was formed only last year, and although il was dugged by ill-fortune, the inaugural .meeting held in January of this year was one of the largest ever seen in the district. Since then a great deal of work has been carried out by an enterprising committee and present indications are that the second annual meeting, Lu he held on January 8, will rank with the leading lixtures of ils kind .n New Zealand. Since lasi season's meeting the Morrinsville Borough Council has spent a great deal of money on the cycling speedway and the results of its operations are sure to he reflected in the times set up by local and visiting wheelmen next Monday. The clay track lias been improved greatly on me bends and has been hanked on the straights, allowing for much greater speed and more spectacular riding, in addition, the clay hank grandstand is capable of accommodating thousands of spectators and commands an excellent view of the entire Held. After a week’s training on the track, the visiting Australian cyclists express themselves as very well pleased with it and expect to lower several of the f existing times when they take the field Morgan of his ability'on the Alorrinsvilie track that lie has decided to make an attempt to lower the New Zealand motor-paced record over one mile. The Sports Club has a very large programme to decide on the day of Ihe sports and the schedule can only he maintained by ensuring a minimum loss ; of time between events. With this j | end in view the club will alternate j I Hie running and cycling events, using j the grass running track, which is situated inside the speedway, in addition to the cycling track. A Brighter Programme However, the club has not rested content with the improvements to the speedway, hut has made every effort \ lu present a brighter and heller pro- j gramme than has ever been previously! seen In New Zealand. The Australian cycling champions, who have been imported for I lie Spring«lale-Te ArohaMorrinsville circuit will feature largely! on the programme and will lie matched i in special races against I lie cream ot j I lie riders from Hie North and Soul li Islands of New Zealand. The New Zealand Iwo mile professional championship will he decided on the day
