LOCAL BUTTER PRICEB LOSS OF OVER 3d PER LB (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The opinion that the Government should make up the difference to the dairy farmer in the event of the London wholesale price of butter exceeding that fixed for butter supplied to the local market was expressed by Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Opposition—Waltomo) in an urgent question addressed to the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, in the House of Representatives to-day. “At present,” said Mr Broadfoot. “the interna] price fixed by the Internal Marketing Department means a loss ot more than 3d per lb for all butter sold locally.” "Dairy factories supplying the local market with butter and cheese are placed on exactly the same basis as dairy factories supplying the overseas market,” said Mr Nash. "The policy is so organised as to ensure equal payout to dairy factories supplying like grades of butter and cheese.” FARMERS’ UNION OPINION SHOULD PAY LONDON PARITY (Times Representative.) MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday. “Our produce is being sold below world parity in New Zealand but we have to pay world parity for everything we buy,” stated a speaker at the quarterly meeting of the Southern Thames sub-provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union last evening when the opinion was expressed that New Zealand householders were buying cheap butter and that as a consequence dairy farmers were suffering a loss. A resolution stating (hat dairy produce sold on the local market should be at a price based on world parity, the minimum being the guaranteed price, was carried. "The fanners have a right to ask that the sales on the local market be made at a minimum price equal to the guaranteed price,” said the provincial secretary. Mr 11. O. Mellsop. "The public of New Zealand should be asked to pay for their butter according to London parity.”
