GARDEN PARTY A very successful garden party was held at Pirongia recently under the auspices of the Pirongia Women s Institute. Mrs Reg. Bell kindly put her house and grounds at the disposal of the Women’s Institute for the occasion. The day was fine and there were many visitors, guests Including visitors from Te Pahu and Te Rore. Mrs W. 11. Bell was in charge of a well-laden Christmas tree, and there were gifts for each child attending the school, as well as each child present. The flower show was most successful, there being - many exhibits. Mrs E. J. Owen was in charge, and judging awards were as follows: — Lady’s buttonhole: Mrs L. Marx i, Mrs Barry 2. Vase roses: Mrs L. The exhibition of arts and crafts was most interesting, and included fine needlework, brass work, water colours. wood pulp vases and papier mache work. Mrs Allport, took charge nf the produce stall, tile Misses Owen, Buchanan and Shirley Bell, sweets; Mrs I -. Marx and Mrs L- Godfrey, afternoon lea. A baby show resulted as follows;-*

Babies up to 6 months: Girl, Baby Liddall; boy, Aubln Bell. Six months to one year: Girl, Baby Jacobsen; boy, Baby Campbell. One to two years: Girl, Jewell Dallas; boy, Baby Waite. Special prize: Adamson twins, Betty and Joan.

At the conclusion of the afternoon Mrs Lorimer (president) Mrs R. Bell for the use of her house and grounds so kindly given for the day, and presented her with a lovely crystal water set. Thanks were also accorded the judges (Mesdames J. Bollard and Hopkinson, of Te Pahu) for their kind assistance.
