SOUTH ISLAND TOMTIT. This Is an elegant little bird which takes up Its abode in garden and orchard. It moves about In a peculiar fitful manner. and In the early morn utters a prolonged trilling note, very sweet and plaintive. Throughout the day and often tit late In the evening. It utters, at rrequen/ Intervals, a soft note like the wordi “ Willoughby ” repeated several times. A peculiar attitude in which It appears t« delight, i< t" cling by its tiny fast to th« upright pole or tree or other perpendicular surface. —lda Blade. HUNTING EAGLES. A Texas marksman hunted by aeropTan a flock of eagles that had been carrylui off a dozen sheep a day. The hunt wal a complete success, five of the eaglet having been overtaken and killed.
