60,000 MEN RELEASED. OPENING OF LONG CANAL. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. MOSCOW, July 16. In order to commemorate the opening of the new 80-mlle Moscow-Volga canal, which enables ships to reach Moscow from the Baltic, Caspian and White Seas, the Soviet has issued free pardons to 55,000 convicts who worked for five years on the canal. The trade unions have been ordered to find the men immediate employment.
