POULTRY, BUTTER, EGGS. THE AUCKLAND MARKETS. AUCKLAND. Saturday. The following prices were realised at the city markets: — Poultry.—Cockerels, heavy breeds, prime, 4s 6d to 6s each; not prime. Is 6d up; light breeds, prime, 2s to 3s; not prime, Is up; fat roosters, heavy breeds, prime, 2s to 3s; light breeds, 2s to 2s 6d; fat hens, heavy breeds, 3s to 5s 3d; light breeds, 2s 3d to 4s 3d; pullets, heavy breeds, best, 3s to ss; smaller, 2s up; light breeds, best, 3s to 4s 6d; smaller. Is 6d up; drakes, young, prime, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; smaller, Is 6d up; old, 2s to 3s 6d; ducks, young, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; old. 2s to 2s 6d; geese, 4s to 5s 6d; turkey hens, 5s to 7s; gobblers, its to 12s; day-old chicks. Black Orpington, 6d to 9d; bantams, 9d to Is. Butter and Eggs.—Eggs, hen, A grade, 2s 4id a dozen; B grade, 2s 3id; C grade, Is 10id. Duck, A grade, 2s 3id; B grade, 2s 2id; C grade. Is 9id. Farmers, butter, is to Is lid per lb. MORRINSVILLE STOCK SALE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report as follows on their Morrinsvllle stook sale held yesterday:—The entry of cattle was about the usual size and included several pens of medium to heavy fat Shorthorn Jersey cross cows, as well as a few pens of Hereford heifers. Competition for good quality beef was Arm, while boners and stores also met with free sale at late quotations. Light beef cows were a shade easier. Satisfactory prices were scoured for a moderate yarding of mostly medium conditioned dairy cows, while the advertised yearling heifers made prices on a par with late rates. There was only a small number of pigs yarded and prices did not vary from those obtaining at Frankton last Tuesday. Medium to heavy fat Shorthorn cross cow’s, £7 5s to £7 10s; medium conditioned fat Hereford heifers, £5 10s to £6 10s; good quality fat Jersey cows, £4 17s 6d to £5 10s; unfinished, £4 5s to £4 15s; stores, £3 10s to £4; heavy boners, £3 2s 6d to £3 10s; others up to £2 15s; medium sorts young Jersey cows, £6 5s to £8 10s; yearling Jersey heifers, £8 4s to £3 10s; store pigs, 26s to 325; others up to 245; slips, 20s to 23a.
OTOROHANQA AND PIO PIO. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report having held sales at Otorohanga on Wednesday and at Pio Pio on Thursday, as follows: At Otorohanga we had a small yarding of sheep and store oattle, and a heavy yarding of dairy cattle. Sheep and store cattle were In demand and i sold at late rates. The dairy cattle j attracted a good bench of buyers and anything showing quality and close to profit drew good competition. Good quality Jersey oows from Mr J. J. Warriner's herd made to £8 10s, Frisians from the same vendor making £7. Heifers were not so keenly oompeted for, making up to £6 10s for fair quality coming two-year Jerseys close to profit. Pigs met with a ready sale, prices being Inclined to firm on late rates. Quotations: Rough class ewes in lamb, 19s; oull wether hoggets, 13s; light plain quality fat cow’s, £5 6s to £5 10s; forward conditioned cows, £4 6s; good store Jersey cows, £3 4s to £3 11s; boners, £2 to £2 15s. In the dairy seotion good quality oows close to profit made from £7 10s to £8 10s; later, £5 10s to £6, £0 10s to £7 10s. | Good Friesian cow’s made £7; later sorts, £6 to £6 10s; backward and plain conditioned cow’s ranged from £4 to £5 10s; rising two-year Jersey and Jersey-cross heifers dose to profit, £6 to £6 10s; later sorts of fair quality, £5 to £5 10s. The market for good olass dairy cows and heifers was steady, and the demand was sustained i throughout the sale. At Pio Pio there was a small yard- i lng of dairy cattle which were all cleared at auction. Quotations: Medium quality Jersey oows, £5 to £5 7s 6d; plainer sorts, £4 10s to £4 17s 6d; backward caivers, £4 to £4 10s; good quality rising two-year heifers made to £6.
DISPERSAL AT GORDONTON. Messrs G. W. Verooe and Company, Ltd., report having held a clearing sale on behalf of Mr T. Riddell, at Gondonton yesterday. There was an exceptionally large attendance of buyers and the oows were submitted in good condition. Although no calving dates were available a very satisfactory sale resulted. Good quality Shorthorn and Shorthorn cross cows (early caivers), made £9 to £11; later caivers, £7 15s to £8 12s 6d; backward, £6 10s to £7 10s; good quality Jersey and Jersey cross oows (early caivers), £9 to £9 10s; more backward, £7 to £8 15s; good quality Friesian cows (early caivers), £8 to £9 ss; more baokward, £6 10s to £7 15s; backward and unsound cows, to £5 ss; Friesian heifers (late caivers), to £7; yearling Jersey and Jersey cross heifers, to £3; Friesian and Shorthorn bulls, £6 15s to £7 10s; sows with litters, £8 5s to £9 2s 6d.
