VALUES AT MORRINSVILLE AVERAGE ENTRIES FORWARD. BEEF IN OOOD REQUEST. Average entries were forward at the weekly Morrlnsvllle stook sale yesterday when there was no unusual development In the market, a good benoh operating at generally late rates. Secondary olass cattle again comprised the bulk of the fat cattle entry, the limited supply of choice beef proving in keen request at Arm to higher rates. One pen of nine attractive Polled Angus heifers drew brisk bidding and was knooked down at £lO, while other good sorts made from £i 16s to £8 iOs. Secondary olass and boner cattle were readily traded and values realised were generally on a par with those ruling at other oentres. The demand for Jersey heifer oalves In the store section, however, was poor. A large, benoh of buyers operated in the dairy oattle pavilion, where no difficulty was experienced In maintaining late quotations. The best lines, Including some Taranaki heifers, sold from £9 5s to £lO 15s, with the bulk of the sales being made from £5 to £B. Bheep and Plge. A quiet demand was shown for wethers, which sold from 34s to 34s 6d, but fair quality ewes were In good request and were knocked down from 21s 6d to 26s 6d. Hoggets, which comprised the bulk of the entry, oleared readily at prices ranglns from 22s 3d to 26s 6d, with oull descriptions making from 9s to 15s. Bidding was animated for a small entry of fat pigs and a ready clearance was effected at advance values, medium baooners changing hands from 69s to 76s and light sorts from 55s to 655. Porkers were likewise in keen request and prices for this class ranged from 40s to 525. Store pigs met a very firm sale at late Frankton rates, large stores being auctioned from 34s to 40s. Breeding sows were in demand from £2 10s to £5 17s 6d. Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— Sheep.—At the weekly Morrlnsvllle stock sale yesterday a medium yard- | ing of sheep comprising mostly fat hoggets. Late rates were maintained throughout. A small entry of store sheep, for which competition was firm. Cattle. —Cow and heifer beef was again yarded In full numbers with good quality in short supply, for which there was a keen demand with firm rates ruling. A draft of rine prime Polled Angus cows offered on account of Mr W. W. Dickie, of Walton. sold up to £lO. Second quality nnd boner cows were also in full ; numbers, these being keenly sought]
after. Store cattle, which comprised ' mostly Jersey heifer calves, met a poor reception. Dairy Cattle: A full yarding of all classes, the entry comprising a large proportion of good quality heifers, for which competition was keen throughout and prices in advance of last week’s rales. A truck of choice Jersey heifers from Mr DB. Livingstone, of Tuhikaramea, averaged £9 15s, whilst a consignment of Taranaki heifers sold up to £lO 15s. Backward heifers and dairy cows sold on a par with late quotations. Pigs: A small yarding of fat pigs, for which competition was exceptionally keen and prices realised In excess of those ruling last week. A large entry of breeding sows attracted a good bench of buyers, and here again prices showed a considerable advance. A large entry of stores and weaners met with keen competition and prices realised were Arm on late rates.
Quotations.—Sheep: Fat wethers 34s to 34s 6d, fat ewes 26s 6d, forward conditioned ewes 15s, fat hoggets 22s 3d to 255, forward conditioned hoggets 21s to 225, store hoggets 16s 6d to 18s 9d, culls 10s 6d to 11s 3d, cull ewes in-lamb to Southdown rams 14s 6d to 17s 3d.
