CARRIERS’ POWERS
“WORSE THAN TAMMANY.” ABILITY TO VETO LICENBEB. DAIRY' SUPPLIERS PROTEST. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, Friday. Suppliers of the Hikurangi Dairy Company yesterday passed a resolution strongly protesting against powers vetoing the issuing of heavy traffic licenses placed in the hand-5 of master carriers’ associations, an interested party, and was of the opinion that the producers’ representatives should have that power. Mr A. W. Wlblln referred to the system being vverrse than Tammany Hall and said there was a prospect of directors having to crawl on their hands and knees to the masters carriers to have their cream carted on one run. He understood on good authority that the carriers’ associations would attempt to prevent farmers possessing trucks from carting manure and goods from railway stations. Mr F. Elliott, chairman, said lie was ■surprised at the alleged statement by Mr E. J. Phelan, No. 1 Licensing Authority, to the effect that his future attitude would be influenced largely by the wishes of carriers’ associations.
