NEW BANDMASTER.
WELCOME AT CAMBRIDGE. ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENING. (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. A very enjoyable social evening- tendered by the band committee was held in ttie huiulroom last evening’ to enable members and Intending members to meet the new bandmaster, Mr W. Meanie. lie has been appointed to the position in Place <»r Mr M. McMahon, why is leaving the district. The new bandmaster is no stranger to ttie members, bring a very old member of the band, and previously sergeant. Last evening, a life member or the band, Mr W. White, presided. Congrat illations were extended to Mr Meanie by • several speakers, and all referred to his splendid services to the uand. The fact that the committee had not gone outside the district to secure * bsndThey thought that Mr Miaulc was quite capable witli tii.s long experience >r bands, both in England and New Zealand, md that his army training and temperament would provide for good discipline. Speakers were al.-o <<\ the <>pmn.,i that tln-re should be more visits by members or the committee !«• the I a .(In.Mil). In reply to a member or the committee. Mr White said the Mayor and Council had been invited to the evening. The member said it was to be regret ted that the council wen- not sufficiently interested to accept the invitation. The new bandmaster returned thanks rnr I lie congratulations "ITcred. and made an appeal lor new member, and Tor the sympathetic support of all interested, lie was pleased to sec several young new members. During the evening a toast to the band's first lire member. Mr C. Boyce, snr.. was heartily honoured.
