The King and Queen, after a night spent in the train, began a 250-mlle tour of Monmouthshire, South Wales, which is to last two days. They started at Newport, where the King cut the first sod of the new Civic Centre. Their Majesties then drove by car to Cardiff, where they watched a display in the park by 8000 children. After other engagements, they proceeded to Swansea, passing en route through a number of depressed areas, including Pontypridd, Mountain Ash and Aberdare. Their Majesties will inspect the famous Brangwyn panels In the Swansea Guildhall before entraining for Aberystwyth, where the tour will be resumed in the morning.
A TUMULTUOUS WELCOME. THROUGH CHEERING CROWDS. DEPARTURE FOR. CARDIFF. (Official wireless.) (Received July 15, 11.0 a.m.) RUGBY, July 14. The King and Queen, on leaving London for Wales on a Coronation visit, were given a rousing send-off by a large crowd. The Royal train remained for some hours in a siding a few miles from Newport, where Their Majesties received a tumultuous welcome.
Afterwards they proceeded by road through cheering crowds to Cardiff and Swansea.
