NORTHERN RAIL GAP.
WORK TO BE COMMENCED. D AR G A VILL E-TAN C« O W AH INE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, Thursday. Work is to be recommenced immediately on the uncompleted section of tlie Dargaville branch railway between Tangowahine and Dargaville, according to a message received by the Right Hon. J. G. Coates, M.P., from tlio acting-Minister of Public Works, the Hon. P. C. Webb, and conveyed to the Mayor of Dargaville, Mr. F. A. Jones. Operations will begin at Tangowahine on tlie existing gap of six miles in the line, a gang of 30 men being employed immediately. It lias not been decided as to the route over which the line will enter Dargaville. The question has been under consideration for some months and the Minister has intimated that finality will be reached within the next few weeks. Mr. Webb also intimated that in pursuance of the Government’s policy of taking men off sustenance and placing them on local body work. 50 men will he available for allocation between the Otamatea ami Hobson counties and the Dargaville Borough.
