Charges of high treason were levelled against Dr. Ludwig Sebastian, (Roman Catholic Bishop of Speyer, aged 75, when he appeared as a witness at the trial at Frankenthal of a priest charged with ‘‘malicious talk.”

The Bishop refused to reply, whereupon the Nazi flourished a photostat copy of a letter mentioning quarrels between Brown Shirts and Steel Helmets. He alleged that the' letter was written in 1935 by the Bishop to Cardinal Pacelli. The Prosecutor remarked: “Practically treasonable.”
