THEFTS WHILE DRUNK.
LABOURER CONVICTED. •COULD NOT RECALL OFFENCE. “ I remember being In the shop but I do not recall having stolen anything, nor do I remember giving anything away. I had been on a drinking bout for two days,” said William George Collie (20), a labourer, of Tirau, in the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, today, -when facing charges of stealing a spirit measure, valued at 37s and a purse, valued at Is, the property of Percy Gordon Turley, of Tirau, and also of stealing two ties, a wooden clock, and a packet of foodstuff, the property of Rose Bros.. Limited, Tirau. The thefts were committed at Tirau on June 25. Accused pleaded guilty.
The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, placed accused on probation for one year. He was also ordered to take out a prohibition order for two
Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert, who brought the charge, said that accused was arrested on June 20. At the time tlie thefts were committed. Coll'e was in the company of two young men who had visited Tirau to transact business. Accused had consumed a irood deal of liquor. He gave some nf the stolen articles to a Maori and others to a young hoy. There were previous convictions against him.
