SETTLERS FAREWELLED.
MR AND MRS H. E. CORBETT. TO LIVE AT MORRINSVILLE. On the eve of their departure for Morrinsville, where they are to take up farming, Mr and Mrs H. E. Corbett and family were the guests of honour of the residents of the Oakura district at a farewell social held in the public hall at Oakura, says the Taranaki Herald. There was a crowded attendance which spoke eloquently of the high regard of the residents for the guests of llic occasion. Mr and Mrs Corbett have spent all their lives in the coastal district, firstly at Okato and latterly at Oakura. Mr Corbett has been a member of the staff of the Taranaki Country Council for about 25 years, during the past -six years as foreman in the , Oakura district. Mr g. H. Bell, chairman of the : settlers’ committee, in expressing the ' regret of the settlers of Oakura and Koru districts at the departure of Mr and Mrs Corbett, said Mr Corbett 'had taken a prominent part In all local i school committee, Farmers’ Union and ; activities, having ibeen a member of the Farmers’ Union Pig Club, as well as an active worker in all organisations, both social and sporting, Including the cricket, tennis and football clubs, for several years. Mrs Corbett too had given valuable assistance, particularly in connection with the hall, where her musical talents had always been available. Mr D’Arcy Corbett had been captain of the Kaltake iootball Club and a prominent member of the tennis club. Other members of the family were also members of sporting organisations. Mr Bell read telegrams from several settlers who are away on j holiday. Regret at Departure. On behalf of the Taranaki County Council Mr S. Vickers expressed regret at losing the services of Mr Corbett, who had always proved a most able and conscientious worker. i On behalf of the settlers Mr Bell 1 presented Mr and Mrs Corbett with a canteen of cutlery and on behalf of the Maoris of the Oakura. pa with a rug.
