FLAG DAY.

KINQ QEORQE MEMORIAL. FINAL' EFFORT PROPOSED. SCHOOL CHILDREN’S FUNCTION. Arrangements in connection with the final appeal for subscriptions to the King George V. Memorial Fund in Hamilton and district were concluded at a meeting of the representatives of many women’s organisations in Hamilton yesterday when Mrs IH. C. Ross presided. It was decided to have stalls in various parts of the town for the sale of the special memorial flags, which would be planted in the Courthouse grounds and in special stands in the Bledlsloe Hall. It was reported that the Mayor and councillors would' attend at the Courthouse at i 1 a.m., when they would plant their flags and the Mayor would deliver an address. Mr W. H. Paul, president of the Waikato Children's Camp League, has taken a keen interest in the organisation of the schools for a function on June 3, and he stated yesterday that, although no promise had been made that the Waikato League would benefit, his society was in favour of the establishment of health camps and knew the cause to be a worthy one. Address by Mayor. At all secondary and primary schools In Hamilton flags will be available on June 2 for purchase at 3d each, and on June 3, the final day of the campaign, when Flag Day will be observed In Hamilton In conjunction with every other town in New Zealand, all school children will march to the Winter Show Buildings at 2 p.m. and place their flags in Bledisloe Hall. The Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, will deliver an address and all schools will participate in an appropriate programme. The pupils of the Hamilton Technical College will sing “Land of Hope and Glory,” the pupils of the Hamilton West and Frank ton schools will give folk dances and the other schools’ pupils will also give suitable items. The lower floor of Bledisloe Hall will be reserved for the children and the upper balconies for the parents. VALUE TO COMMUNITY. BUSINESS [MAN’S APPEAL. A strong appeal for support from the business community for the King George V. National Memorial Fund has been made by the president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, Mr M. G. C. McCaul, who writes as follows: “The business community of New Zealand Is noteidi for Its generous response to appeals for help to all worthy objects. I*n asking business men to support the King George V. Memorial Fund. I do so In the sure knowledge that it will present a double appeal to them. First, a desire worthily to commemorate their loyalty and affection for the late King George V. and, secondly, a wish to establish a memorial of such a nature as ho would approve. The reign of King 'George V was beset with many difficulties but, throughout, his first thought was ever the welfare of his subjects. I am sure we could not more fittingly perpetuate so fragrant a memory of duty and affection than by adopting tho proposal of the Prime Minister and permanently endowing four children’s health camps in the Dominion. ”
