WAIKATO CORONATION MEETING. RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED DOMINION’S BEST REPRESENTED Hurdle and steepleohase talent throughout the Dominion is represented In the record entry received for the Coronation meeting of the Waikato Racing Club, to be staged at Te Rapa on Saturday and Monday, May 22 and 24. and Indications are that the popular winter fixture of the Waikato body will constitute even a further record for this progressive club. Throughout, the entry, both from the viewpoint of numbers and Quality, provides striking vindication of the progressive policy of the club pursued In recent years in catering more fully to the interests of owners and the fine stakes provided this year and the consequent response provides striking evidence of the growing importance of Waikato headquarters as one of the principal jumping venues of the season. From the representative point of view the nominations, this year, are by far the most gratifying yet received for a winter meeting in this territory, Riccarton, Trentham, Taranaki, Hawera, Gisborne and Auckland stables being freely represented in the comprehensive list. The principal event, the Coronation Steeplechase, which this year carries a stake of £7OO, has drawn 2nominees, while the hurdle race has attracted no less than 29. On the second day, the Waikato Steeples and the Coronation Hurdles, both carrying stake money to the value of £SOO, have drawn 3o and 3. < nominations respectively. Withal the class of horse entered for the Waikato meeting this month represents the best jumping talent in the country and, with the closing of acceptances, the fine fields forthcoming should ensure a record gathering.
