CONSTABLE DROWNED.

DUCK-SHOOTING TRAGEDY. MERGER, Saturday. Constable Gordon George Medhurst (29), stationed at Port Chalmers, who was spending a holiday here, was drowned this afternoon in the Whangamarino Stream. With a companion, Mr Alfred Parrish of Northcote, deceased set off in a small boat with the Intention of visiting a shooting location when the frail craft capsized. Mr Parrish managed with great, difficulty to reach the bank but Constable Medhurst sank almost Immediately. His body was later recovered near the spot where he disappeared. Constable Medhurst, whose wife is spending a holiday at Ohakune, was a native of Cambridge and Joined the police force seven years ago. His brother resides at Mercer.
