PROGRESS OF ROTARY

32nd ANNIVERSARY. ADDRESS TO HAMILTON CLUB. To-day marks the thirty-second anniversary of the foundation of International Rotary. Speaking at the weekly luncheon of the Hamilton Rotary Club yesterday Mr VV. MuoKay, of Auckland, outlined the objects, ideals and organisation of Rotary and said that in order that there should be no weak link in the chain of clubs, every Rotarian should do his best to carry out the work of the organisation." This fell under four divisions, club service, vocational service, community service, and. international service. Referring to the Pan-Pacific conference to be held in Wellington on March 1, Mr Mac Kay stated that it was expected that representatives from all clubs bordering the Pacific would be present and that a cup would be awarded for the one with the best attendance. Honour for New Zealand. Among the officers of International Rotary New Zealand had the honour

of once possessing a vice-president in the Pacific area and has had several members on the directorate.

Probably the greatest obstacle to be surmounted by Rotary was the mastering of the many languages with which if, came in contact. The Central European office at Zurich, Switzerland, handled some 30 languages and 440 clubs.

The December figures revealed that there were 4070 clubs in the world, 172,000 rotarians and in the year ended June 1 last 130 new clubs were elected, including 11 from the PaciCc area.

Concluding, Mr Mac Kay stated that Rotary was changing from year to year in order to keep up with the times and so that this might be done a special committee met twice a year.
