INTOXICATED OFFENDER. ALLEGED USE OF SHOE. “The assault was most brutal,” said Senior-Sergeant G. 11. Lambert In prosecuting Frank McCullum, who appeared before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, • this morning, charged with assault. • Defendant pleaded guilty. > “I will want a report from the pro- " bation officer so that I may decide ? i whether to sentence this man to imI prisonment or place him on probation,” 3 said the magistrate in remanding accused until to-morrow for sentence. The senior-sergeant said accused went to Ids home under the influence of liquor on Saturday night and after r going into another bedroom assaulted a man. Accused struck him heavily i. on the head. Later he struck the man with a leather shoe, and knocked him about considerably. Medical attention was necessary and the victim was not In a condition to work. Accused admitted having been drinking heavily but said he had no recollection of the affair. He suggested s that he take out a prohibition order.
