CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS. ; GOOD PROGRESS REPORTED. "—9,—Further progress was reported at the meeting of the St. John Ambulance Committee last night when plans for raising funds for the new ambul—ance station were discussed. Mr 'l‘. Parker presided. The honorary organiser, Mr C, G. Hunt, reported that the appeal for funds had been launched and arrange—ments were well in hand for a con—oentrated drive {rem October 14 to October 28. The dairy farmers would be oiroulsrised on October 20 and all local bodies within the area. were to be approached for grants.
Donations Already Received. The sports bodies in the district. had already been circularised and had readily responded to the appeal. The desire of residents to provide them—selves with emoient flush-aid and am—bulance services was evidenced by the fact. that a number of donations had already been received from persons who had not yet been circularised. it was stated that the. proposed building could serve not only as a base from which to conduct an eflloieni ambulance service but also as a headquarters from which the affairs of the association could be administered. Accom—modation would also be provided for the drivers of the ambulances.
It was estimated that £4OOO was needed for the building and while the sum was a large one the organiser expressed the opinion that- 1t was not beyond the resources of the district provided that all branches of the com—munity were approached. The campaign for funds would be spread over the whole district to be covered by the new ambulance service and application had been made to the Govern—ment for assistance.
