Peter Beevers, of Bradford, who was one of the English ex-soldiers who came to pray for peace, collapsed and died as the last Sacrament was being administered. MANY ARRESTS MADECLASH WITH VILLAGERS. BEIRUT, Sept. 15. Lebanese gendarmes surrounded several villages in the Shouf district, which were believed to harbour armed bands. While transferring several prisoners the gendarmes were fired on from a hill. Further arrests followed. Twelve rifles and a quantity of ammunition were confiscated, it is believed they were being smuggled to Palestine. TITLE TENNIS. DOMINION TOURNAMENT. WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
