SECURED A FREE RIDE.
IMPERSONATED A CONSTABLE. NAVAL OFFICER MISLED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. The story of how two men secured a free ride from the suburbs into the city in a postal van as the result of one telling the driver that he was a policeman escorting a prisoner to the police station, was revealed in Court this morning when Raymond BramwelJ Roberts (27) admitted assuming the designation of a constable. The police stated that accused and his companion, who was a naval officer, had been drinking and directed the van driver to take them to the station. When they arrived accused ran away, but was caught. Counsel said Roberts was trying to ape a man of means with the naval officer. Roberts was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months, a condition being that he take out a prohibition order.
