MORE MINES IDLE.
POSITION AT HUNTLY. FURTHER MEETING HELD. AWAITING CONFERENCE DECISION. (Special to Times'). HUNTLY’, Tuesday. Although work was resumed at the Rotowaro mine to-day a stop-work meeting was held in the afternoon when after a discussion lasting over two hours, it was decided to send a telegram to the secretary of the United Mine Workers’ Union, Mr A. McLachlan, who is in Wellington, asking for his advice. It w : as added that the men would abide by his decision. One of the miners’ delegates replied promising to lay their claims before the conference of owners and employees now sitting in Wellington. The men decided not to enter the mine to-morrow. The dispute arose in the first place over the price of top coal removed from the pillar workings. As the work is regarded as more dangerous than the ordinary workings the men claim that they are entitled to higher rates of pay. it is regarded as not unlikely that the men from the McDonald mine may go on strike in sympathy with the miners at Rotowaro. POSITION TO-DAY. OTHER MINES IDLE.
(By Telegraph.—special to Times.) HUNTLY, Wednesday. Arising out of the dispute at the Rotowaro mine all other mines in the Huntly district are idle to-day with the exception of Pukemiro and Wilton. It is understood that there is little likelihood of the position being changed before any word is received from Wellington from the conference between the employers and employees. A mass meeting of miners will be held at Huntly this afternoon.
