RHODES SCHOLARS.
AUOKLAND NOMINEES. CANDIDATE FROM TE AWAMUTU. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. The two Auckland nominees for the Rhodes Scholarship to be awarded in New Zealand this year were selected yesterday by the professorial board of Auckland University College. They are Mr George Lawrence Hogben and Mr George Clifford James Dalton. Mr Hogben, who is 20 years of age, was educated at the Remuera School, and the Auckland Grammar School, where he was prominant in both scholarship and sport. Mr Dalton, who Is also 20 years of age, was educated at the primary and district high schools at Te Awamutu, and later at the Auckland Grammar School. lie is the son of Mr G. Dalton, of Teasdale Street, Te Awamutu, and the late Mrs Dalton. Besides having a good scholastic record, he was prominent in Rugby football, cricket, boxing and swimming, and was senior prefect at the Auckland Grammar School in 1933. After winning a university entrance scholarship. Mr Dalton studied at the college for his B.E. and B.Sc. degrees concurrently. He is taking the final subjects for his B.Sc. degree this year, and the subjects for the second professional examination of his engineering degree.
