VANITIES OF THE PAST.
There’s nothing new under the' sun —nor under your hat if you are a modern girl. Your counterpart in the early Roman Empire knew her cosmetics as well as you do. In those days a henna shampoo, j used for dyeing the hair yellow or red- j dish, was obtained by pounding up i henna leaves. Eyelashes and eye- i brows were blackened by vegetable j soots. Oil made from wild olives j was use'd to prevent the falling of j hair, and for premature greyness a j hair tonic was made from myrrh and i ladanuin mixed with myrtle oil and j wine.
