TALLOW, HEMP AND FRUIT. THE ENGLISH MARKET. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dafo.i September 12, the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London : Tallow.—The market is quietModerate business has been done in mutton, tine, on spot at slightly easier prices. Hemp.— Manila: The market is strong with an improved demand; prices have advanced. September- ■ November shipment sold up to £26 10s. Sisal: The market is linn and stead); shipment sold at £27; Ileceniber-Mareh shipment, £27 ss. New Zealand: The market is quiet: nominally unchanged; no first hand sales reported. Fruit..— Final stocks have been cleared at late rates. The season has been very unsatisfactory; the demand for apples has been weak out of proportion to supplies since November, with prices declining consistently over the last three months. Pears have been somewhat better. The trade is nonplussed to account for the consistent weakness in the apple market, but a combination of circumstances, including the Coronation, induces them to be more optimistic regarding the new season. Eggs. Market Is Arm but trade is slow on account of higher prices. English, national pack. 13s to 18s 6d; ordinary pack, 15s to lGs; Danish, 10s 7Vd to 13s 3d. CAMBRIDGE STOCK SALE. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report having held their Cambridge stock sale yesterday when u good yarding of all classes of cuttle came forward. The entry included two pens of Shorthorn and Hereford steers offered on account of Messrs Kirby Bros., of Maungatautari, and also a pen of Polled Angus steers on account of Mr Seymour Brunskdl, of Whitehall. Competition was Ann with values on a par with late quotations. Cow and heifer beef was in average supply and in this section competition was again brisk, values being equal with those ruling In other centres. Boner cows met with u ready sale, there being no appreciable variation iu values. A good yarding of dairies met with keen bidding from a full bench of buyers, values remaining Arm at late rates. Choice sorts were particularly sought. There was a medium yarding of pigs, including a small entry of fat pigs and a good number of stores and weaners. Competition came freely from a full bemdi of buyers, prices being on a par with recent quotations. We quote:— Cattle: Light fat Hereford and Shorthorn steers, £1! to £l2; light fat Polled Angus steers lo £ll 8s; fat cows, £9 to £9 13s; lighter fat cows and heifers, £5 lo £7 10s; forward and tillable cows. £3 15s to £» 16s; heavy boners, £2 2s to £2 IDs; lighter, 32s to £2: young sound empty cows, £2 17s Gd to £3 Its: yearling Shorthorn heifers to £3 15s; yearling Jersey heifers. £2 IGs to £3 ss; two-year empty heifers, £3 Is to £3 is. Dairies: Choice Jersey heifers, close to prollt, ' £lO to £11; Jersey and Jersey cross heifers, close lo prollt, £8 lo £9; more backward, £G 15s lo £7 15s; smaller and backward, £5 10s to £G 10s; inferior sorts, £3 lOs lo £5 ss: Jersey and Jersey cross cows, close to profit, £7 to £8 15s; luler culvers. £3 5s to £6 15s. Pigs: Medium porkers, £2 to £2 ss; light, 35s to 395; good stores, 29s lo 335; others, 25s to 28s 6d; slips, 21s to 2is Gd; weaners, 15s 4o 20s.

Limited, Hamilton, report as follows on their Taupiri pig saie held yesterday:— A yarding of fat pigs comprised principal!' of porkers came forward. soil bench of buyers was operating and steady eompclilion prevailed throughout, with lust week’s Frunktou price levels being maintained. Supplies of store and weuncr pigs were fairly heavy and Ibis probably accounted for the slight recession in rates. Practically all. however, changed hands. We quote:—•Medium to heavy-weight baeoners, £.3 2s to £3 12s; medium to light-weight baeoners, £2 13s to £3; medium porkers, £2 5s to £2 Pis Gd; light porkers, £1 15s to £2 is; butter-milk pigs, £1 10s to £1 13s: well-grown store pigs, £1 5s to £1 9s Gd; medium, £1 is to £1 -is; slips. 16s to 20s; good weaners, Pis to 15s; Inferior, up to 11s.
