BRITISH TRADE.
._.__ EFFECT OF SPANISH WAR. Ull’FlCL‘LTi-ES FOR MERCHANTS. United Press Assn—lilac. Teli Copyright. LONDON. Sept. 12. The Spanish civil war is creating serious difficulties for British import—ers and merchants. Shipments 01' Spanish grapes are indeilnitcly held up, and it is' uncertain whether the usual November supplies at Seville Oranges will arrive, as the fighting has led to iacl; oi" attention to trees and a damaged crop. Also, it is feared that the Christmas trade in dried fruits will be seriously hit. Consequently, Australian varieties are in increasingly good demand. The position of firms operating in copper and iron pyrites from mines in Spain is serious. All the British con~ uessions are in areas occupied by the insurgents, who insist upon receiving full value in foreign currency for cargoes exported, while the British Government requires the value to he paid again on arrival in Britain. The proceeds are entered into the Angle Spanish trading account. in so far as it has increased the (liliicullics of the FI‘CHI'II government. reSulling in n rrnr\vrd attack on the franc. the Spanish sitnntion tins lli‘f'll a (leprrssing initurnrn on the stark markets. \\‘hii-h hure [lilSnt'lt :i iii'vii-ss week.
