MUNICIPAL HOUSING.
(To the Editor.) Sim—A few weeks ago I wrote commending the decision of the Borough Council not to embark on a municipal housing scheme. A critic at once accused me of preventing progress, and so on; but failed to reply when I quoted the decision of the decision of the Christchurch City Council not to have anything further to do with a plan that had already involved heavy losses. To-day I was given a copy of a resolution adopted by the \Vhangarei Borough Council. It read—rl‘he following motion, moved by the Mayor, was carried unanimously \vilhout discussion: "That it. is not proposed to erect any more \\‘orkers’ dwellings in the meantime and that. the corporation be advised that some years ago the council advanced loans for the erection of some 60 houses. the liability for which the council is at present finding difficulty in financ—ing, and in a number of instances the council has had to resume possession of the houses. “Also, there are several schemes for the erection of houses in the borough, and it is considered unnecessary for the council to embark on a housing scheme at present.“ —i am, etc., RATEPAYER. - Hamilton, September 10.
