KING EDWARD
4 30 O’CLOCK EDITION
IMPORTANCE OF TOUR. GIVEN POLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE. FRIENDSHIP WITH TURKEY. United Presa Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Sept. 8, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 7. Much comment In London of political significance has, Intentionally or not, developed from King Edward’s European tour, notably as some of the countries visited recently have fallen much under German influence. The tour of Turkey seems to have done much towards reviving AngloTurkish friendship. The Dally Telegraph’s diarist, recalling the progressive dropping of the incognito of Duke of Lancaster, with which the King originally began his holiday tour, says that against the King's will it has had political significance thrust upon it. The conversations with King George of President Kemal Ataturk and King Boris have inevitably excited diplomatic interest. That such contacts were not intended to be formal was evidenced by the fact that no high otllcial of the Foreign Office such us accompanied King / Edward VII. on his European tours was present.
