LUTTRELL KNOCKED OUT. FIRST ROUND SENSATION. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. In a professional heavy-weight boxing contest in the Town Hall last evening between Semi, champion of Fiji and Tonga, 13st. 61b., and Val Luttrell• of Hamilton, 12st. 121 b., Semi knocked out his opponent in the opening round. As in his first bout in New Zealand against Claude Nichol, of Australia, the Fijian opened in slashing style, driving Luttrell to the corners with deadly left rips. Luttrell made the mistake of trying to open up and exchange punch for punch with his opponent, this having a disastrous result. A powerful left swing to the jaw dropped him to the canvas for tlie count of seven soon after the start and from then onward the New Zealander was in a weak condition.
Semi was continually seeking an opening for his left and, when the bout had been in progress two minutes, he
connected cleanly with Luttrell’s jaw. This blow shook the New Zealand badly, steadying him for a second left rip to the solar plexus, which dropped him again to tlie mat. lie had not risen at the full count, Semi beingawarded the decision. Tlie contest was witnessed by a largo attendance, which was quick to applaud the winner for his forceful display. It was announced that Semi would meet Nichol in a return contest at tlie Town Hall next Saturday evening.
