DRIVERS’ CONDITIONS.
PARTIAL AGREEMENT. DETAILS OF NEW AWARD. (By Telegranh—rress Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. As the result of conciliation proeeedings last week a substantial agreement has been reached in the Dominion dispute of the Horse and Motor Drivers. A 4 i-hour week is agreed to but the Arbitration Court is to be asked to decide the case of drivers employed in connection with industries or establishments where less hours obtain. The 'Court is also to decide the payment of work done on Sundays toy drivers whose employees are controlled by the Transport Licensing Act and the rates of pay for casual workers and extra payment for bakers and drivers who start 'before 7 a.m.
The new award will be in two parts, one concerning town carriers and merchants. and the other drivers employed in goods transport services controlled by the Transport Licensing Act. The Wages range from £4 Ms to £5 3s.
