OBITUARY.

MR J. T. MORTON. The death occurred at Hamilton on Saturday, of Mr John Thomas Morton (58), of Kimihia, formerly a resident of Onehunga for many years. Mr Morton was one of the principals of the firm of Messrs J. T. and F. S. Morton. He was a keen sportsman and owned the steeplechaser Ulster. Retiring from business about five years ago, he went to live at Kimihia, near Huntly. He is survived by his wife. MR JAMES THOMSON. The death occurred at Hamilton, yesterday, of Mr James Thomson, aged 84, a Waikato identity for over 27 years. Mr Thomson was born at Kirkpatrick, coming to New Zealand when he was 18 years of age to commence business in Southland, where he became a partner in the firm of Messrs Beattie and Thomson. He also worked" as a miner on the Otago goldfields. In 1899 Mr Thomson and his family came to the Waikato to take up farming at Waharoa. Fourteen years ago he retired to Jive in Hamilton. He was a prominent Presbyterian, and was a foundation member of the Claudelands Bowling Club. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. MR JOSEPH CHICKEN. The death occurred at Hamilton yesterday, of Mr Joseph Chicken, aged 84. Mr Chicken was well-known in the Hawkes Bay district for many years. He was a watchmaker by profession. In his younger days he was one of New Zealand's foremost marksmen.

Mr Chicken was also a prominent Free Mason and was the oldest Pastmaster of the Grand Lodge in New Zealand. The late Mr Chicken retired some years ago and for the past three years had resided in Hamilton. He' is survived by one brother. He was unmarried. ' MISS LOUISA REDMOND. The death of an old identity of Hamilton, Miss Louisa Redmond, occurred yesterday. Miss Redmond, who was aged 72, was one of the earliest residents of Hamilton, and conducted a drapery business in Victoria Street for over 25 years. She was born in Australia, coming to New Zealand as a girl. Her brother pre-deceased her several years ago. MRS H. F. MAXWELL. The death occurred yesterday at Hamilton of Mrs Helena Frances Maxwell, of Tamahere, in her sSth year. Mrs Maxwell was born at Opotiki and lived most of her life in that district, going to Tamahere some eleven years ago. She is survived by her husband, Mr W. Maxwell, one daughter, and three sons. MR R. L. GICK. The death occurred at Auckland on Friday of Mr Robert Lewis Gick, aged 53, a member of the Railways Department for over 30 years. Mr Gick had served in many districts of both the North and South Islands. He had been stationed as a guard at Frankton Junction for about 10 years. As the result of an accident during his work Mr Gick had suffered indifferent health and a few months ago was compelled to retire. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and three sons. THE REV. G. H. BRIDGMAN. The death occurred at Oamaru last week of the Rev. G. H. Bridgman, in his 85lh year. Mr Bridgman was one of the most successful home missionaries of the Methodist Church. He was born in Cornwall, and spent 82 years of his life in New Zealand. He entered the work of the Church in 18SS, and for 39 years exercised a fruitful ministry in a wide variety of circuits in both islands. MR ROBERT GEDDES. AUCKLAND, Monday. The death has occurred, at the age of 76, of Mr Robert Gedd6s, of Maurice Avenue. Remuera. He was one of the founders of the firm of Browne Brothers and Geddes, Limited, manufacturing confectioners, and was a prominent Presbyterian, serving as an elder of st. David's Church for over 18 years*.
