Chambers’ cap skidded on the Newtonards railway bridge, demolished a lamp-post and mowed down a crowd of people stand* ing against a wall. A boy was killed outright and 17 spectators were injured, six of whom died of Injuries, while two others are not expected to recover. Chambers was not seriously Injured. Local congregations observed twaj minutes’ silence. Strong feeling prevails In favour of more adequately safeguarding spectators of races. Thousands attended the scene of the' crash.
