IRISH SWEEP EPISODE.
FORGERY CHARGE LAID. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Saturday. The central figure in the recent £30,000 Irish sweepstake episode, Ernest Arthur Trcmere Johnstone, appeared in the Police Court tins morning charged with forging a cheque for £3O purporting to the drawn bv A. I»irie on the Bank of New Zealand at Milton with intent that it should be acted on as genuine. He was remanded in custodv till Wednesday, the police slating that he had 'been admitted to probation on another charge by tiie other local magis t ra t e.
