Seeking to stimulate the birth-rate, Herr Reinhardt, Minister of Finance, announces State grants of ten marks monthly for the fifth and every additional child under sixteen years, of families whose income does not exceed 185 marks monthly. It is estimated that 400,000 children are involved, costing 48,000,000 marks a. year. This scheme will operate from July. and will supplement the system of non-recurrent grants to large families which have hitherto cost 75,000,000 marks. Six hundred thousand loans. total—ling 340,000,000 marks, have been made to assist couples to marry.
