Both men. who are reported in splendid condition. come with high reputations and their meeting here to-morrow should draw a crowded house. Russell, who is on his first visit to this town. has created such a fine impression wherever he has appeared in New Zealand that he can be regarded as the ideal match for McCready in providing an exhilarating bout. Formerly a cow-puncher in Montana and Wyoming, and for a while sherifl in his native town. Ames Highway, lows (the birthplace of several famous wrestlers. including Frank Gotch). he has had a mast varied career. He learnt his wrestling from John Pesek. winning several State championships during_ the seven years he was in amateur. in addition to the lightheavyweight and heavyweight national titles in successive years. He was a candidate for Olympic selection in both 1928 and 1932. and turned professional in the latter year under Paul Bowser‘s management. Since then he has built up an excellent. record. which includes victories over some of the best men who have been to New Zealand. as well as not.able wrestlers who have not visited this country. He has a speciality called the euplex hold which he uses very eflectiveiy and is an aggressive and colourful performer. MoCready needs no introduction to local wrestling fans. The British Empire champion ranks among the world‘s best and his strength. speed and wids repertoire of holds always assured a. good entertainment.
