FRANKTON BOWLERS

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. NIGHT BOWLING INNOVATION. .\m COONEY AGAIN PRESIDENT. I A good attendance or members participated in the annual meeting of the Frankton Bowling Club last evenv ins. when the president, .\lr J. ‘l‘. Cooney, presided. A communication was received from the South Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Bowling‘ Association stating that the centre had been con—cerned with the lack of interest shown by the clubs of the centre in the centre tournament. It was the wish of the centre‘s executive that the tournament should be truly representatire and that all clubs should have the opportunity of competing. The following suggestions were made for consideration by clubs: (1) That section play of the centre tournament should be held on the New Year holi—day dates or each year; (‘2) that any club in the centre that can secure eight or more entries be allowed to conduct one or more sections; (3) that all section winners or qualifying teams will meet in Hamilton on January ‘29 to play finals; ('1) entry fees to be divided. halt to centre, halt to club, the centre providing all trophies and expenses of finals. It was agreed by the meeting that the adoption or the suggestions contained in the communication would mean that the centre tournament would be better patronised. It was decided to instruct the club’s dele—gates to the centre to support the centre‘s suggestions. and to ask the centre for a definite ruling on the matter of trophies. and also if Anni—\'ersary Day could be allowed the club for a tournament. The Annual Report. ”1 have to report a very successful season.“ said the president in his ad—dress to members or the club. “The most important factor contributing to this success was the lighting of the green for night howling. Despite the unfavourable weather for night howl—ing in the early part of the season. and one full rink tournament havlns to be postponed three times in six:cession, the revenue received from this source has more than covered two-thirds of the cost of the lights. For the coming season a contract has been let for a fourth row of lights, which will give ample light on the green. This should be appreciated by players taking part in night bowling. as there will be now little delay tn locating bowls that have rolled into the ditch."
