GOLF NOTES.

HAMILTON LADIES' CLUB. ‘ CORONATION MEDAL. (By “All Square.”) The scores were disappointing in the. Coronation Medal for seniors only which was played on Wednesday under perfect weather and course conditions better results were expected. The best card was Mrs C. Bryant’s 9133—18—75. The next best was Mrs Bindon’s 93—17—76. Mrs C. 0. Bennett and Mrs F. Mander were net 78’s, the latter player having the best gross score (83) for the day. Aotea Roe Cup. The junior scores in the Aotea Ros Cup (seniors and juniors} were more satisfactory. Miss A. Waring reduced her handicap by two strokes on the new 71 SS. Her card of 94—25—69 was a good one for the Aotea Ros medal competition. Her in-coming score of 44 included a 7 and two 6’s. Mrs C. N. Jewell and Mrs D. E. Hart also did well with 71's net. These two players have been outstanding this season in their consistency. Mrs N.‘ ; Hallett was 74 net, Mrs Wynne Grayi ‘net 75 and Mrs B. Burgess net 76.‘ 1 For the first time this season com—iplaints were received about the conrgestion on the links. It was very { noticeable on Wednesday that players aware in a desperate hurry to get lawsy. No doubt Show engagements were responsible for this and perhaps a little leniency was extended in the matter of starting. There is not the slightest need for congestion i! a player will walk smartly between shots and watch the direction of her partner’s ball. In future, starting Itimes will be strictly adhered to. gMatches will leave the first tee at 5 ‘minute intervals but in case there is ‘a vacancy on account of player droplping out of the draw it is advisable ‘ to be at the clubhouse at least 133““tet of an hour before the sc uled time of starting. Club Foursomes. Twenty-nine couples have entered for the match play foursomes which i is always a popular competition. The first round will be played on Monday, June 8. ‘ One Day Open Tournament. The first open tournament of the season will be held on Thursday, June [4. A medal will be played in the lmorning and foursomes in the after;noon. Already a fair number of entries have been receiv d and given a fine day an enjoyable‘ime is anticipated. The links at present are in gexcellent order and country visitors Iwill appreciate the condition of the course. | Scoring. On Wednesday a member asked if a notice could be put up requesting players to be a little more meticulous about their scoring There was no imiplication of wrong figures but she [said “Mrs So-and-so never knows the .score." It is annoying to have some'one always betraying symptoms of lagony over her faulty memory. On the other hand one does not want la Nemesis, like a machine, recording your every stroke as you make it. It is a wise plan for both players to tally up after their approach shot to the green before putting. Non-handicap Players. Undoubtedly, beginners get more thrills out of the game than the low handicap players. When they reduce their scores in tens and twenties at i each round it becomes an achievement to be discussed in detail. Glancing over some of the cards sent in by this season’s beginners we find that the first round is usually in the vicinity of 180. Then they come down to 160, 140, 120, 115 and then they appear to find it very hard. However, it is very'gratifying to know there is such an improvement since the beginning of the season.' There is always something to play for at golf and there is the joy in “the great outdoors” and the “tang of the air,” and the few good strokes compensate for: all the duffed shots. It is only by! ‘continual practice with a correct‘ {swing that they will accomplish what ithey have set out to do. I
