SUMMER BLOOMS

SHOW AT MORRINSVTLL£ HIGH QUALITY OP EXHIBITS. INCREASED ENTRIES RECEIVED, A profusion of colourful summer blooms, from delicately tinted shades to bolder crimsons, was the most attractive feature of the 21st. annual show of the Morrinsville Horticultural Society which was held in the Drill Hall, Morrinsville, yesterday. Despite the very unfavourable conditions that have ruled for flower culture during the last two months exhibits in the flower section reached a very high standard and in the opinion of the judges excelled that of last year’s show. Entries in all sections showed a substantial increase over those of last year. The comprehensive schedule comprised 206 classes, including sections for vegetables, fruit, farm produce, cut flowers, dahlias, home industries, arts and crafts and special decorative classes. On commenting on the standard of excellence reached in the dahlia section the judges stated that this was highly creditable to the exhibitors in view of the adverse conditions prevailing during the few weeks prior to the show. The standard of the vegetable section also showed an advance over last year, the majority of the exhibits being more forward and of improved quality. The home industries section was strongly supported and was highly commended by the judges. The Nottingham Castle Bowl for the champion dahlia bloom, giant decorative. was won by Mrs A. A. Ward, of Hamilton, with her bloom, dale Prince. THE PRIZE LIST. VEGETABLES. V Silver Beet: J. A. Kerr 1 and 3. A. Hockev 2 Beetroot, long: A. Hockey t. Beetroot, turnip-root: A. Hotkey 1.
