Male Choir for Hamilton. The formation of a Male Choir in Hamilton is a move in the right direction and one that should be successful. Male concerted singing is very t enjoyable, and as tjjere is plenty of' talent in the town and district programmes should be sufficiently attractive to draw large audiences. Some years ago Hamilton had a very ; strong Male ’Choir, and there is no reason why it should not he revived , successfully. The first practice will be held on Monday night, under the baton of Mr O. Jones. It is interesting to learn that the Wanganui Male Choir had a splendid season last year. The strength of the ’Choir was maintained —50 taking part in the last -concert —and the financial position is satisfactory. Choral Society’s Stronger Position. The report adopted at the 10th. annual meeting of the Wanganui Choral Society showed the society to be in a stronger position financially that it has been for some years. New Zealand Composer’s Success. The house of Chappell of Sydney has published Gordon Mcßeth’s (Wanganui) song 44 All on a Summer’s Day,” which was awarded the Bledisloe Gup for an original song of a distinctly New Zealand character. Latest Song Hit. “ Lights Out,” written by Billy Hill, who wrote “ The Last Round-up,” is said to be the latest song hit in England and America. Help for Auokland Singer. Hinemoa Rosieur, the brilliant young Auckland singer who is to return to Australia shortly for further study, will be tendered a farewell concert at Auckland to-night, under the direction of Colin Muster. Ina Bosworth, Helen Gray, Moya Cooper-Smith, Jean Clarkson, Kathleen O’Leary, Mr and Mrs J. W. Bailey, Robert Simmers and Jack Buckley will assist. Contralto Back In London. Muriel Brunskill, contralto, whoso concert tour of New Zealand recently drew very small audiences, gave a recital in London last month. She was assisted by/ her husband Robert Ainsworth, pianist, who was one of the conductors of the grand opera company in Australia last year. Musical Moments. The violinist, Leo Cherniavsky, will leave Sydney for New Zealand on February 28 for a broadcasting tour. There is a waiting list of singers eager to join the Circassians Musical Society in Wellington. The maximum membership has been fixed at S 5. The New Plymouth Choral Society will commence the season with “Merrie England.”
