JEAN BATTEN CRASHES. ESCAPES WITH SLIGHT SHOCK. While flying near the South Downs at Midhurst, Sussex, in her Atlantis 'plane, Miss Jean Batten crashed, says a London paper. She’ suffered slight concussion and shock. The machine was slightly damagea. Only a short while before Miss Batten had taken delivery of her aeroplane when it was landed from a boai at Southampton. On her way hack }o London she experienced coil I rouble, and was forced to make a. landing in a field near Lynch’s Farm. Bepton, about three miles from Midhurst. In corning down she .just managed to clear a wood, but struck the top of a low hedge, which fortunately gave way. After receiving attention at the farmhouse Miss Batten was taken by farm workers to the surgery of a Midhurst doctor. She decided to spend the night at a local hotel. The doctor declined to allow her to see any callers.
