April 29, 30—Dannevirke RC- (at Woodville). GOSSIP FROM ALL PARTS. Owing to the heavy rain experienced at Te Rapa yesterday morning there was little fast work recorded and only in several isolated cases was anything sent against the clock. Barlow’s Representation. The New Plymouth trainer, R. Barlow, will be represented at the Waikato meeting by Tahurangi, Refresher, Dombey and Clessamor. Sweet Lap. On a holding track the Lapidary mare Sweet Lap would not be. without prospects in the Frank ton Hurdles on Saturday. She has been working satisfactorily at headquarters. A Strong Team. The New Plymouth mentor, J. Fryer, will have a strong team here for the Waikato meeting, his representatives comprising Ned Guttle, Soloist and Wotan, ali of whom are expected to pay expenses on the trip. Not Fit. Entheos, who . developed a bit of kidnev trouble on the Taranaki trip, was unable to start at Egmont, but It is not likely that he wil be out of action very long. Frince Ooloasus. In the event of a holding track at; Te Rapa on Saturday the prospects of Prince Colossus will advance in favour. His performances at Matamata were his best for some considerable time and he revells in holding conditions. Clessamor. Clessamor, who has been running consistently on the Taranaki circuit has been hitting out freely in his preparation and is in pood order for engagements at the Waikato meeting, bn Saturday he is entered for the Linley Hack and should give a good account of himself.

Look Well. According to Taranaki reports H. Dulieu’s team for Te Rapa. Grateful and Red Sand, bear a well-trained appearance and have done everything required of them in their subsequent preparation. Grateful is entered for the Llnley Hack and Red Sand for the Hack Gup and Beerescourt Hack. Refresher Is Fit. Nothing has been working better on the tracks at New Plymouth of late than Refresher and he will lack nothing on the score of fitness when he goes into the starter’s hands at Te Rapa on Saturday. The other morning according to a New Plymouth report he ran five furlongs in company with Dombey In the good time of 1.2*, the first two furlongs in 24s and the three in 36 2-ss. Likes It Soft. Having her first outing with the colours up at the Matamata meeting he Te Rapa-trained Merial was responsible for an encouraging showing in finishing within half-a-length of Gay Streak. She was one of the outsiders of the field on that occasion, but will not be at such generous odds If she happens to run into the money here on Saturday. Diacquedoon Working Well. Diaequedoon has been working well on the tracks at Te Rapa and his encouraging showing at the Matamata meeting when he scored in runaway fashion in heavy going would suggest that he will have to enter calculations in the l.inlev Hack Handicap on Saturday. In tiio event of holding conditions pertaining at Te Rapa his prospects will be enhanced ns it was in heavy going that he won at Matamata. Mala. Although it was reported at the time that the Wellington Stakes winner Mala would he reserved for spring racing as a three-year-old, it is now stated that he will be taken to EUerslie to contest the Champagne stakes, to he run at the Auckland Racing Club's \uiunin meeting Mala commenced racing only in December, and in his . four starts has registered t\Vo firsts an ,j a similar number of seconds. His success In the Wellington Stakes wAa a brilliant performance, as lip won ea>i!v and was timed to run the the furlong* in

Avondale Secretary, Mr A. J. Farquhar, the secretary of the Avondale Jockey Club, has resigned owing to ill-health, and Mr J. Rawson has been appointed to the position. Mr Raw-son, for many years, has been associated with the secretarial staff of the Takapuna Jockey Club.

Lornacre. Lornacre is looking well and A. Winder's charge must be conceded good prospects in the Linley Hack on Saturday. He won his first race on the opening day of the Dargaville meeting at Avondale in December last year with B.G and the impressive nature of that success was indicative of better things. On the second day of the meeting over a furlong longer distance he went another solid race but had to lower his colours to the better seasoned Valspear. Gay Blonde. Gay Blonde, who was narrowly beaten at Randwick, is now the Sydney favourite for the V.R.C. Newmarket Handicap. She was coupled for a substantial amount with Bunsby Gaze, and definite inquiries came from Melbourne for doubles ending with the South Australian mare, Amalia, and the New Zealander, Cuddle. J. King, trainer of Gay Blonde, said that he was not the least interested in the backing of the mare. No arrangements had been made for Gay Blonde to go to Melbourne. It was possible that she may accompany Fidelity south, but the owner had informed him that there was still plenty of time to consider whether she would make the trip or not. Royal Artist. The showing of Royal Artist will be the subject of interest to local track-watchers when he takes iiis place in the Storey Memorial Handicap on Saturday. He has been working consistently well on the New Plymouth tracks and if caught in the mood may surprise. However, we have been so familiar with the deceptive nature of his track work when lie was here before that one is disinclined to too much reliance on it. He is a gay deceiver. One of the Elite. Class performances last week were not confined to Australia, the wins of Silver Ring at Dunedin being high lights of racing in the Dominion. In addition to registering a race record of 2.30 1-3 in the Dunedin Cup, Silver Ring also established a weight-carry-ing record for the race when he car- i rled 10.1. Warstep v s D. 13 in 1915 was the previous best, while the time record previously was Pilliewinkie’s j 2.31 in 1925. Silver Ring has appar- j ently never been better in all his career, and Ills present trainer seems to have solved the secret of his previously long periods of poor form. In his present condition it would not be surprising if lie made another trip to Australia in the autumn. Condition of Mazlr. Since returning from the Takapuna meeting and up to a few days ago. Mazir had been executing satisfactory work and was in the pink of bodily condition. During last week, however. Hie occasion arose for a deepseated corn in a front hoof to be cut out. This was attended to satisfactorily, but since then the chestnut has been undoubtedly lame, with the result I hat on Monday afternoon ownertrainer J. 11. Wallace had perforce ;o withdraw him from the Storey Memorial Cup field. It is not known what time may elapse before the Whirlwind gelding will again be a track worker, hut the delay has Interfered with his preparation to such an extent that he is deemed an improbable contestant at. the Te Aroha meeting where he had a splendid chance of increasing his winning score. Hopes are expressed that he will not have to miss the Te Aroha fixture, and the latest report i.; to the effect that the lameness is decreasing.
