TIN SUPPLIES.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Is it true that tin has never heen found in New Zealand, even in traces in the mineral belts? And has any trace ever been found of platinum or osmiridium? —I am, etc., WAGER. Hamilton, February 19. [The Year Book states that cassiterite in the form of stream tin occurs near Port Pegasus, Stewart Island, and that lode tin has been found in the same locality. Small quantities of cassiterite have been detected in the stream gravels of the Reefton, Greymouth and Westport districts. Among other localities where traces have been found are Wet Jacket Arm (Otago) and Campbell Island. Some platinum lias been exported from Southland. The Year Book makes no mention of osmiridium. -—Ed. W.T.]
