KEEPING OF BEES.
FIELD DAY AT RUAKURA. NEW METHODS DEMONSTRATED. During the afternoon session at th« South Auckland Beekeepers’ field day at Ruakura yesterday a demonstrauncapping knile, was given by Mr T. Winter. Mr T. Pearson also described a device for holding nails, while Mr J. I*. Ireland, of Te Rapa, exhibited combs treated under Ills new wiring system, Mr A. 11. Davies, of Hillcrest, showed a seat for use anions the hives, and Mr C. Horne, of Waihou, demonstrated a cage for queen introductions. Mr Winter announced that Mr A. L. Pearson, of Claudelands, was the winner of this year's queen test, with Mr E. Hillary, of Epsom, second. Some diversion was caused by a competition in which the competitors were required to recount their most humorous beekeeping experience. A number of written questions were answered during the afternoon. The gathering was concluded with an address on spring management by Mr Nelson, who described methods of \ management designed to promote the * most efficient and profitable beekeeping.
