MEN’S SOCIETY'S FUNCTION. LOYALTY OF MEMBERS. At the meeting of the St. Peter’s «ranch of the Church of England Men's Society last evening opportunity was taken by the members to bid farewell to Bishop Cherrington on his trip to England. The chairman, Mr J. G. Bateson, spoke of the great value of the bishop's work in connection with the Church of England Men’s Sooiety in the diocese and referred to his influence on other branches in New Zealand. The Bishop always received a good hearing In his travels and left behind a good impression. All wished him a pleasant and profitable trip and safe return. Mr Bateson then handed the Bishop a handsome pipe and tobacco pouch as a token of regard from the members. Mr Raven then added a few wellchosen words and handed the guest a present for his children. Mr D. Hay then proposed the health of the guest, wishing him every good luck and safe return. The Bishop, in reply, said he was grateful to the Church of England Men’s Society for altering the day of their meeting to give him a chance to say good-bye to the members. He thanked them for the gifts and the honour they had done him and hoped that everything would go on well during his absence. He spoke highly of the loyalty of the Church of England Men’s Society to the Cathedral and church work and urged the members to support the Dean and the church.
