SYDNEY ROYAL SHOW.
DOMINION STUD BTOCK. ROYAL PRIZE-WINNERS. New Zealand will be represented at the forthcoming Sydney Royal Show by a notable collection of Ayrshire and Friesian cattle and Clydesdale horses bred in the Wairarapa district. It is many years since representatives of the old Scottish breed in New Zealand have been exported to Australia, but the present shipment should do much to advertise the quality of Ayrshire stock. The four chosen are from the Ardgowan herd of Mr J. G. Donald, of Featherston, which in recent years has provided many Royal champions. Heading the shipment is the yearling bull, Ardgowan Middle Watch, which was first at the recent Royal, Wairarapa, Manawatu and Hawera shows, so should prove a worthy representative for New Zealand stock in Australia. Ardgowan Middle Watch is sired by Mr Donald’s latest imported bull, Hobsland Prince of Perfection, brought from Scotland, while his dam is from an old New Zealand family and Is from a half-sister to the former Royal champion cow Maesgwyn Princess, which sold for the record auction price of the breed, 505gns. Hobsland Prince of Perfection was Imported from Scotland at great cost. He was the best bull of his age there and is closely related to many of the great bulls of the breed. The three heifers are all yearlings and are a very line trio. Only one has been shown. This is Ardgowan Sweet Lady, which was first both at the Wairarapa and Manawatu shows. To-day it Is difficult to , decide If the former heifer is superior to the remaining pair, Ardgowan Dancing Fame 11. and Ardgowan Dewdrop. both notable daughters of Avonsyde Star of Fame. The butter-fat backing of' all of these animals is also exceptional, so they should prove a line advertisement for New.. Zealand as producers as well as showcattle. The purchasers are Messrs Korff Bros., Campbelltown, New' South Wales, who have one of the leading studs in Australia. A year ago, Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., who arranged the shipment, selected Friesian cattle for shipment to Mr Eric Lloyd Jones, of New South Wales, from the Wairarapa herd of Mr O. A. Cadwallader, Greytown. These met with general approval and carried off major honours at the Sydney Royal Show. Another splendid yearling heifer, Ahikouka Mutual Sylvia 2nd., has just been shipped to Mr Lloyd Jones from Mr Cadwallader’s herd. This heifer was a prize-winner this season at the Royal, Wairarapa and Manawatu shows. Mr Donald McKenzie, of Woodlands, Musterton, the well-known Clydesdale breeder, will exhibit his Tour-year-old black colt. Woodlands Favourite, and his two-year-old bay colt, Woodlands Gay Boy. Both of these nbtable prize-winning Clydesdale.-. beTore shipment to New South Wales, will be exhibited at the Masterton show. They are full brothers in blood. Both have been outstanding winners at North Island shows and have also competed successfully at the New Zealand Royal Show. Both are sirecl by a former Royal Show winner, Favourite Dene, by Bonnie Dene, tne lati ter being an imported son of the famous i breeding mare, Maid 0’ Threave.
