STARTING AT ELLERSLIE.

UNSATISFACTORY DIBPATGHEB. POINTS FOR CRITICISM. TREATMENT OF UNRULY HORSES. The dlspafcohing of fields at the recent Takapuna meeting at Eellerslie left much to be desired on occasions and several points that stood out in this 'Connection call for constructive criticism, viz. the flat-footed start as against the move-in dispatch of fields and the latitude permitted fraotious horses to the detriment of the rest of the field. By no stretch of the Imagination could the starting at Ellerslie last Saturday and Wednesday be termed satisfactory. In several instances fields were sent away in a straggling line and Invariably there was considerable delay occasioned through the starter’s insistence on a flat-footed start. Such delays at the post are not only irritating to the public but are not fair to good horses who are often upset by the undue consideration shown to unruly horses who after being permitted a reasonable opportunity of lining up correctly should be placed on the outside, or at the rear, of the field.
